The Kwanzaa Planning Committee’s The 2009 Kwanzaa Cover Art Campaign This year, for the very first time ever, the Washington DC Area (Banneker City) Kwanzaa Planning Committee and the United Black Community (UBC) are having a campaign for the design of the cover to the Annual Kwanzaa Calendar. The Kwanzaa Planning Committee’s Annual Kwanzaa Calendar of Events has served as the primary source of information for many decades on the various programs taking place in the D.C. area during and around Kwanzaa, as well as serving as the “Yellow Pages” of Black Owned and Operated Business. Its 10,000 copies are circulated throughout the DC area, other parts of the United States, and the world, particularly the African continent. The cover for the Calendar has always been unique, inviting, a source of pride and a celebration of who we are as African people.
The Kwanzaa Planning Committee, in collaboration with the United Black Community (UBC), is having this campaign in order to open up to the community the chance to be part of this historic publication, in the designing of its cover. We recognize the honor that has been bestowed upon us to take on the responsibility of the Official Kwanzaa Calendar, and wish to share the privilege with the community. All artists in the community are invited to submit entries.
The submissions for the cover designs should be Original, 8.5/11 in size, black and white, portrait format, and may be submitted in paper form, but preferably in electronic form, as a PDF or JPG file.
Submissions should be e-mailed to ubcindc@yahoo.com or physically mailed unfolded to P.O. Box 10011, Washington, DC 20018, no later than October 30, 2009
The winning entry’s artist will have the privilege of having their work grace the cover of the Official 2009 Kwanzaa Calendar, with a circulation of 10,000 all over the world. In addition, the winner will receive a $100 prize from United Black Community (UBC).
Asante Sana, Kwanzaa Planning Committee
